Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers
In 1976, A homicide occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico
of a gas station attendant. Frustrated by lack of information, a homicide detective
in Albuquerque went to a few business owners suggesting that it may help solve
this case if a reward was offered. They agreed and it was decided that $1,000
would be paid for information which led to the arrest of the person(s) involved
in this crime. The media's help was requested in advertising this incentive.
Within three weeks someone came forward with information which led to the arrest
of the person responsible for this murder. Another key incentive was assurances
that the caller would not have to reveal their identity. From this case grew
an organization which now has chapters in all fifty states as well as seventeen
other countries!
